by | Jan 17, 2025

What trends in finance can we expect for 2025?

As we review what has happened over the past year, we can look to see what we can expect going forward. While no one has a crystal ball, we have listed a few financial trends to keep an eye on as the year progresses.

Artificial Intelligence - AI

AI is becoming embedded in financial services, with AI providing the possibility to enhance customer service, offer predictive analysis, improve risk assessment, detect fraud, navigate regulatory compliance and assist with investment research.

Sustainable Finance and ESG Investing

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in becoming more mainstream. There is an expectation that this year many companies will integrate ESG criteria into their operations and investment strategies.

Digital Currencies

Digital currencies, including central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and cryptocurrencies are likely to reshape financial landscapes. The adoption of CBDCs and the acceptance of cryptocurrencies as legitimate methods of payment will challenge traditional banks.

Regulatory Evolution

As new financial models and technologies emerge, regulators are adapting. Finance trends include increased scrutiny on data privacy, cybersecurity and anti-money laundering measures.

Robotic Process Automation -RPA

RPA in financial services is expanding and AI-enhanced bots are now handling more complex tasks like claims processing and credit assessments- to reduce operational costs and improve processing speeds.

Green Fintech

A rise in green fintech, focusing on sustainability. Includes carbon footprint tracking with banking apps, ESG analytics and blockchain-based carbon credit trading platforms.

Hybrid Finance - HyFi

A blend of traditional and decentralized finance, HyFi is introducing real-world use cases like tokenized real-world assets, cross-border payments, and institutional blockchain adoption.

Cybersecurity and Fraud Prevention

With the rise in digital transactions and data handling, there’s an intensified focus on cybersecurity. Financial services are investing heavily in developing robust strategies against financial crime, fraud, and cyber threats.

Summary

There is no doubt that technology and sustainability will be at the centre of financial services going forward. How this will all manifest itself over time is anyone’s guess.
