Travel Insurance: Is Cheapest the Best?

by | Oct 18, 2024

It is not just the premium you pay that is important, it is the cover provided.

Aisa International, as well as being an investment firm, is also an insurance intermediary. Yesterday, one of our clients asked if we could arrange travel insurance for her and her sister for a 9 day trip to The Seychelles.

She told me that her normal provider had given her a very competitive quote for the premium and asked if we could get a lower price. In fact, we did, but that is not the point. The issue is, as with any purchase of any product or service, value for money.

Travel Insurance Costs

The travel insurers active in the Czech market (covering residents- not only Czech nationals) usually offer three options; Basic, Standard, and Above-Standard. All firms have differing levels of cover for various eventualities. Our view, especially when travelling outside the EU, is to look to obtain the highest level of travel insurance cover, which is often only a matter of a few hundred CZK difference than Standard cover.

The premium our client obtained herself was 2,124 CZK for the highest level of cover. We were able to offer a premium of 1,890 CZK for the highest level of cover with another insurer. But, it is not about the price – even if we have saved 234 CZK for a short trip (perhaps the costs of a couple of drinks at Prague airport as you await your flight).

Travel Insurance Cover

The difference in cover between the two offers:

Medical treatment – a whopping 400 million CZK more cover with our recommended policy.

Personal liability Insurance (for damage to others)- an extra 10 million CZK (there are other events that are covered within the premiums that continued to deliver high levels of cover in comparison).
